What is Gold Vermeil?

Vermeil (pronounced "vehr-may") is a gold plating process developed in France in the mid-1700s. All Sacred Charms vermeil items have a solid sterling silver core with a 22 karat gold coating.

Vermeil is highly popular because it has the heft and appearance of solid gold, but at a small fraction of the cost - especially so now that the price of gold is close to $1,000 per ounce.
